The following are some general guidelines for blanket making, by category. Keep in mind that the materials used be new and washable, resulting in a quality product.
1. Materials: Materials used to make blankets can include your favorite yarn, (with the exception of wool) for crocheting and knitting, fleece and fabric for quilts. Quilt batting can be synthetic, such as polyester, or cotton. Again, please no wool. Some kiddies are allergic to wool. It is very important that the fabrics used be washable and made with care so as to last as long as possible; quality is very important.
2. Sizes: Since the blankets that we distribute cover ages newborn to 19 years of age, the sizes can vary quite a bit. As a rule, the blankets are not meant to cover a bed; think more like cuddling up in something soft and warm. Therefore, sizes can vary from a minimum of 36 x 36 inches up to approximately 48 x 60 inches. This is not written in stone; just a guideline.
3. Styles: As noted in #2, the blankets are intended for babies through adolescence. Therefore any style that would accommodate children in that age group, boys and girls, is suitable. We are always in need of blankets fitting the adolescent age group but any age or gender is welcome.
